The Summer Pregame Post Part 1

Well its about that time when the sun stays out longer, the flowers are in bloom, and the puppies are out of hibernation (a thank you). Summer is coming and so is slew of things to do and see. But if you’re near the New York/New Jersey hell even the Cali area, than you’re gonna be screwed because your gonna be hit by so many events that you wouldn’t know what to do. Well I can’t help you pick which ones to go to cause I can’t control you (not yet, stay tuned), but I can give a couple of events that’s going down in the area that I’m gonna hit up and hopefully you the reader may be interested in as well. Gonna start with the mother of all concerts:

Hot 97 Summer Jam 2009:

6/7/09

This is going to be the LAST Summer Jam in the original Giants Stadium so ish may go down at this years concert like it had in the past. Last year it was the “Battle of the Beat Makers” between Kanye West and Swizz Beatz. The Crowd went ape s%^t beat after beat, but in the end it was the hometown hero Swizz that won the battle. This years line-up is ok with Mary J Blige, Jadakiss,  Young Jeezy, The Dream, and T-Pain being the headliners. But what I hope to see this year being the last is something big to happen, and that something is the reunion of The Diplomats. since Killa Cam was M.I.A for a minute, Jim Jones stepped up as leader and things didn’t feel the same, but with the both of them being in the same place at the same time, one can only hope for the team to come together again.

Fangoria Weekend of Horrors

6/5/09-6/7/09

I’m a Huge Horror Movie Fan ( If you dont believe me I’m the only one out of my group of friends that payed to see the Friday the 13th and Halloween Remakes) and to have this convention happen in my backyard is a blessing. The guest for this years event id gonna be insane. Guillermo Del Toro, Dario Argento, Tobe Hooper, and Tom Savini  are gonna be in attendance just to name a few. Horror Fans rejoice, we get some of that west coast con-love.

E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo)

June 1st-4th

If you call yourself a gamer and not know of this convention, your gaming license is hereby suspended till TGS (and if don’t know this convention, your card is also revoked). This is the year when the show returns to its  multi-million dollar roots (Thank God for common sense), and this year promises to be the year of huge reveals for the companies that are involved this year (swine flu be damned). My money is on Sony to drop a couple of AAA- title Bombs and the rumored PSP Go and price drop for the PS3 (I may own a 360 but I’m backing Sony to own the show this year and hopefully they’ll prove me right after the lackluster last year. Please David Jaffe, quit BSing and give us the New Twisted Metal sneak peak so i can have another reason to buy the PS3.)But then again, Microsoft has been hella secretive to what they are going to be coming to the 360. But after having the bomb that was Final Fantasy XIII dropped on the unsuspecting public, who knows what to expect from Microsoft this year. And For Nintendo, unless its a new Mario or Zelda Game, or a revamp to a(n) old school series, who cares. (Yeah I’m bias to Nintendo and every right to be. I was a(n) hardcore nintendo fan until the game library gotten way too much into catering to the casual demographic) If you dont have the credentials or the funds to get to E3, hit up or live feed to get up to the minute info, hit up Gametrailers.com, or 1up.com(their coverages are always on point), or if you got digital cable, watch G4( I like Adam Sessler, but Morgan Webb’s gaming cred is still suspect. I believe Kristen Holt is more of a gamer than her, but I digress.) Here”s to a good E3, and a good gaming year.

Central Park SummerStage

All Summer Long

If you are in the NYC Area, best believe you gotta check out the concerts being offered at Central Park SummerStage. There are so many genres covered at the Summerstage that there’s a concert or two you’re gonna hit up, and the best part is the concert(s) are open to the public for the low low price of FREE. with artist Like Q-tip, Chrisette Michelle, Chester French, Ginuwine, and Jazmine Sullivan hitting the stage this year, do you really need any other reason to hit up the city this summer? Check out http://gonyc.about.com/cs/summer/a/summerstage_2.htm for the full list of acts performing this year.

Rock The Bells Festival

July 19th New York (check official site for tour dates)

If Summer Jam isn’t for you and you like your Hip Hop without the commercial tendencies, then Rock the Bells is a no brainer for the true hip hop heads out there. Trust me, I am Hip Hop since 1983, and the line up reflects the true essence of the art year after year. Nas, Damian Marley, The Roots, Ice Cube, Common K’naan, Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek(Refletion Eternal), The Knux, Busta Rhymes ( Cmon if there’s 2 artist you gotta see live its The Roots and Busta Rhymes and They’ll both be at RTB this year) and so many other artist performing this year you had to be on the re-re status of stupidity to miss this concert. Check out http://www.guerillaunion.com/rockthebells/ for the complete line up and additional info.

Comic-Con International

July 22nd-26th

I would say something but I just find out that the event is completely sold out. Your only Option is to watch on G4(damn 2 G4 plugs in 1 blog, I died a little inside) 40th Anniversary too, I kinda expected this a mile away. Well i was Lucky enough to hit up the east coast version last February, but I guess with all the guest, events, and premiers happening at CCI, I’m still envious towards anybody going this year.

Well This is just the beginning the events I’m gonna be listing or attending, so check back soon for part 2. Until then, this is CedricTheGamer saying, “You get 1 chance to enjoy life, so do the most you can while you’re still on Earth.” Peace.
